GNOME GTray
This is a small notification area app to check the status of your
GMail account and display
if you have any new email. It is inspired by Elias Torres'
GTray
program for windows.
This uses the GNOME libraries but it uses the freedesktop.org standard
for tray apps, so it ought to work fine in KDE and other desktops.
It is written in Ruby
and uses the
Ruby GNOME2 bindings.
Installation
To install you need Gtk2 and Gconf2, and the bindings for these
from the Ruby GNOME2
website. You also need the gtktrayicon
library. Finally, it needs the Ruby HTTPS library (a compile time switch when building
Ruby) to perform secure HTTP.
Under debian, you can install all of the required packages by typing as root:
apt-get install ruby libopenssl-ruby libgconf2-ruby libgtk2-ruby libgtk-trayicon-ruby
